LanzaTech plans to produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel approved by Neath Port Talbot Council
LanzaTech UK Ltd., a subsidiary of LanzaTech Global, Inc. (Nasdaq: LNZA), the carbon recycling company transforming waste carbon into sustainable raw materials, has been granted permission for a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) facility on a former-industrial site at Crown Wharf. The facility, which received a unanimous vote for approval by Neath Port Talbot Council’s Planning Committee, is anticipated to create over 150 full-time jobs, including 85 skilled jobs on-site.
This decision marks a significant milestone for ‘Project Dragon’, LanzaTech’s proposal to build pioneering carbon recycling facilities and place Port Talbot at the forefront of this new green industry.
Jim Woodger, LanzaTech UK Ltd. Managing Director, said, “We are delighted that Neath Port Talbot Council has approved our planning application. This milestone marks an important step for Project Dragon and demonstrates the potential for Port Talbot to transition to clean green industries that build on its heritage whilst providing jobs and wider benefits for the local community.”
This decision followed extensive consultation with key stakeholders including members of the public. LanzaTech plans to continue supporting the local community in Port Talbot through, in time, establishing apprenticeships along with continuing to support local charities and educational institutions, such as the newly opened JES Skills Academy.
Construction of the facility is due to commence in winter 2024, and production is scheduled to begin in 2026. However, the timetable is subject to securing the legislation, investment and offtake agreements that are needed to move forward to a final investment decision.
