Gas Fermentation facility

As part of Project Dragon, LanzaTech is planning to build a pioneering carbon recycling facility on a brownfield, industrial site at the former Oil Refinery, Waterston, Milford Haven.

The proposals would support the emergence of new low carbon technologies, create green jobs and tackle climate change whilst helping to deliver a just transition.

The proposed scheme would:

Cut carbon emissions, by transforming industrial waste into a sustainable fuel source, and supporting the wider decarbonisation of industry
Create green jobs and support a just transition
Provide wider social value benefits, with the potential for apprenticeships and work experiences and use of the local supply chain where possible

Ahead of the submission of an outline planning application, LanzaTech is seeking the views of local residents and businesses as part of a formal Pre-Application Consultation (PAC), which will run until XXX.

As part of the PAC, we have provided a summary of the draft planning application documents below. These documents will be finalised following the PAC process and submitted to Pembrokeshire County Council.

The site

The 12.1 hectare brownfield site would be a suitable setting for the proposed facility considering its industrial context. Existing industry near the site are expected to be able to provide the required waste gases for the Gas Fermentation process.

The process

The proposed facility would transform industrial waste gases via LanzaTech’s innovative Gas Fermentation technology into ethanol, which can be converted to sustainable fuels or low carbon products (such as clothing, packaging and fragrances).
